Liam Ó Flaithearta was born in the Aran Islands in 1896. He spent time as a soldier in the First World War and the Civil War, a while travelling the world on board a ship, a while in the Bowery, New York, before he set upon writing as a craft in the 1920’s. He is renowned worldwide for his novels and short stories, that are available in many languages. He died in 1984. Dúil was the only Irish language book of his that was published during his lifetime.
